From: Alianza NORCO, Fort Collins for Progress, and IndivisibleNOCO.
Let us all join Alianza NORCO and Fort Collins for Progress in a peaceful solidarity demonstration for Colorado’s DACA youth and to call on Senator Cory Gardner to support the bipartisan DREAM ACT of 2017.
Tuesday, September 5, 4:30 PM
In front of Senator Cory Gardner’s Office
2001 Shields Street, Fort Collins
The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program has provided nearly 790,000 young people with career opportunities and the ability to follow dreams otherwise unavailable. Colorado alone has over 17,000 DACA youth. With the potential loss of work permits and deportation protections for over 17,000 Coloradans, our state faces a potential loss in yearly GDP of over $850 million for the state. Elected officials and other advocates are pushing for a humane solution that supports Colorado’s youth and economy.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and nine other states have threatened a legal challenge to DACA if President Trump does not rescind the program by September 5th. President Trump is weighing an immediate end to the program, we are anticipating a decision from the President on September 5th, the day of our rally. Senator Gardner has not voiced support for the DREAM Act of 2017, which was introduced by Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Dick Durbin (D-IL), Jeff Flake (R-AZ), and Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to provide a permanent solution for our immigrant youth.
So – bring signs to show your support of DACA, immigrants who contribute to our economy, and the DREAM Act and to call on Senator Cory Gardner to sign on to the DREAM Act of 2017.
If you cannot make it to the rally and want to help, call Senator Gardner and ask that he come out in support of the DREAM Act.
Friends, Family, Organizations, and Community Members Welcome! #DACA #DreamAct2017
